4 Key Benefits of Social Media Marketing

Using social media as one of your marketing tools for your business certainly has many benefits. One of the benefits we discuss often is the fact blogging and other social media tools are a great way to develop channels of communications between you and your customers or clients.

Social Media Opens Up the Channels of Communication

By opening up these channels of communications, we are able to start the process of building a relationship with these same individuals. Recently, I came across a chart which actually appears to support the premise that communication is one of the benefits of social media marketing. In fact, if you look at the chart below, the top 4 benefits of using social media involve communication.

All of the top four benefits involve some form of customer/client communication.

  • Customer engagement
  • Direct customer communications
  • Speed of feedback/results
  • Learning customer preferences

If this is a true indication of what the benefits are, we should be looking at ways to take advantage of this. We should also be looking at our own blogging and social media practices to make sure we are encouraging this engagement and interaction between our business and our target audience.

Finally, if you are not using a blog to market your business or professional service firm, you should be. By utilizing a blog, you give your target audience the ability to engage with you and give you feedback via comments and other ways for them to contact you. And if you take advantage of social media, you can use such services as twitter, FaceBook and LinkedIn as a tool to grow and promote your blog. All of these tools working together give you a great opportunity to communicate with and start a relationship with your target audience.

Whoa! What a pretty accurate statistics you got there mate. I'm a social media marketer myself and I've been running a couple of blogs (all of which have a steady stream of interesting folks). Yeah it's true, blogging is the way to go and for those of us not in the wagon yet - better catch up! Blogging as a means to propel your business is outright effective and you get to meet awesome folks too who share the same interest and whatnot. Simply try it - works like magic. And not just blogging though. There are a cadre of social media community sites waiting out there so better join the horde now. Good read man. And yeah Zane added some 100-hit combo.

The old method of advertising is interactive marketing. The term is misleading. Most people think it means that there is some type of interaction on the part of the person advertised to, and there is. But, it is not conversational. Instead, the advertiser wants you to interact with their campaign in a specific set of steps. Following the call to action and visiting a website for instance. It's the push to make you do something. Live this image. Buy this now.

Social Media Marketing is just the opposite. It's the pull of the tribe. The tribe already has your trust so the actions they take are ones you align with. On a larger scale, it's the allure of belonging in the group as you take action together. "I am doing this so why don't you do it with me?" On an individual level, the attraction is to behave the same way to get the same results that benefits your fellow tribeswoman or tribesman. "She looks hot! I want to look hot too. I want to go to her hairstylist" and you do. Social Media Marketing uses the power of attraction.

While advertising tries to use the same tactic, with a billboard for instance, of a gorgeous woman telling you the benefits of the salon, it doesn't have the same impact because it's pushing you to go. It is not pulling you in as a trusted friend. Your friends have your best interests at heart and advertisers do not. Social Media Marketing is based on building trust and that foundation will make Social Media a dominant player in Marketing.

This is an excellent list. This is the power of social media. Real conversations among real people about your product, service and how amazed and delighted they were with it.

And together, these 4 combine to deliver an improvement in the ultimate metric for business: cash-flow, cash from operations, EBITDA.

Improved cash-flow results from:

1. lower advertising costs
2. more leads, prospects
3. higher quality leads and prospects. By 'higher quality' I mean they are pre-qualified by their friends and neighbors talking about your company on social media.
4. higher sales conversion ratio. As your mix of leads moves from cold or mildly curious, to interested, pre-qualified, your sales conversion rate goes up.
That means you grow faster with less expense. And that equals improved cash-flows.
But it also translates into:

A. a motivated, engaged, employee group. Seeing, hearing, reading, the positive feedback from customers on their efforts and seeing it spread and then return to them in the form of more new customers creates a powerfully positive feedback loop.
B. lower employee turnover.
C. lower hiring costs.

Those last two come from an engaged and inspired group of employees who want to stay and who want to recruit the best people to work with them.
