Promote your site locally (Day 22-31 Kick Butt)

jonesborough-tn-main-st-m.jpg 300×300 pixels.jpgToday’s lesson and task is a fairly short one for day 22 of 31-Days to Kick Your Blog in the Butt. However, if you are a business blogger or service firm, this one can really make a difference and not only kick your blog up a notch. Doing this task can also put you on the map locally.

Today’s Lesson

It seems we spend so much time talking about how we can promote our blog’s to the world, we actually forget about what we can do to get it noticed locally. Chances are, our most important market for our products or services live right in our own home town. While the internet has certainly opened up doors so we can expand on our market. It can also be used to gain us even more notice locally.

Google Local Business Center is a great way to do just that. It is simple and it is free. And anytime we can use a tool which is free and which brings in business, we would be fools not to use it.

All you have to do is fill out the form on the site which I have included an image to. You will also have to do a verification process, but it is very easy to do. Either with email, SMS or a phone call. I think there is also a snail mail way too.

After this has been completed, you will be able to upload photos and videos, specify categories, payment options and business hours and much more.

Other ways to promote your blogsite locally

The number of ways you can promote your blogsite locally is really only limited by your imagination. Here are just a few I came up with.

  • Put the URL in all of your local newspaper ads
  • Put the URL on all of your print marketing marketing
  • If you have a business people actually visit, why not set up a cheap internet station and have your site open and available to be searched while they visit your business.
  • Sponsor a local kid’s ball team and put URL on the shirts
  • Sponsor, sponsor and sponsor local events and functions and put your URL in anything you can

The list could go on and on.

Homework for today

Get signed up for Google Local Business Center and sit down and list out some other ideas you can come up with to promote your blogsite locally. No matter how far fetched they may seem, write them down.

My blog -- North Bay New Media http://blog.cuclispr.com -- was always intended for a local and regional audience. It's been interesting to see how many people are reading it from around the country. Thank you for the reminder about the Google Local Business Center.

Good reminder - I've done this for my clients, but not myself.

I guess practice what you preach is an old saying for a reason.
