Name it and Domain it –– The advantages of using keywords in your domain name

When we talk to our clients about SEO, especially naming their blogs and getting a domain, I tell them one key item. “Name it and domain it” as close to each other as you can. What do I mean by this? I like to see a blog for a professional service firm named so it includes three key points. Where you are, what you do, and who you are.

Take for example the blog we launched recently for a client called, Texas Bankruptcy Lawyer, pictured above. Not only is the name perfect for this blog. So is the domain, http://texasbankruptcylawyer.com. Both the name and the domain include those three key points I mentioned above. This blog was launched less then two weeks ago. As you can see from the image below, it is doing quite well in a Google search. Number seven to be exact. While I would like to take all the credit, the firm is doing a great job with posting to the blog. Which is also a powerful testimonial for businesses or professional service firms thinking about blogging. The quick success of this blog is a great example of how powerful blogging can be to get you noticed on the web.

I like this technique, it's a simple rule of thumb that reaps a lot of benefit.

However, I do think that it is limiting and some what bland in the creativity of naming your company. Obviously much more difficult to implement with web 2.0y names.

I still think this is a great solution for small businesses!
