I have found that some bloggers do not accept trackbacks. Is this because they dont' want a trackback to my blog? Or they don't understand the point your article makes about links? Or something else?

Is it polite to ask a blogger why they didn't accept a trackback?

Martin- Exactly. What concerns me is so many "rookie" bloggers see doing a blogroll as a quick fix to getting noticed and traffic. I hardly ever look at a blog's blog roll. What I do look at is what blogs they are linking to in their post. And I almost always go visit the blog they link to also.

I think some do the blog roll because they either don't understand how important in post linking to relevant content is. Or, they are just too darn lazy to put out the effort it takes to do so.

As you mentioned, it is the conversation that is enriched by adopting such practices. And lets not forget the relationships we develop with other bloggers by taking the time to read them and join in the conversation by posting about their post and linking to them too.

Well said Grant,

"...not enough time working on linking in well written, relevant content driven blog post."

Spot on. It's the richness of the conversation that I'm after. For me, nothing beats one blogger posting a thought and then it spreads into conversations and goes down various paths.

Martin Neumann´s last blog post..Crazy Economic Days Equals Aussie Dollar Windfall

Good post Grant. Agree totally. You need to become involved in the conversation and not just focusing in on SEO and linking. If you really dive into the conversation, the rest will come..i.e. interest in your blog, contacts, etc...
