Just the other day I was having a discussion with someone when they asked me how they could improve their blog’s readership. Prior to our call, I had spent some time looking at and going over their blog. And I was a bit taken back by what I saw. They had not posted on their blog since last November.
What I wanted to say was this; “are you kidding, you really don’t know why you are not getting readers?” But I controlled myself. I calmly asked them what they look for when they visit blogs and decide whether they are going to subscribe to them or continue to come back again and again. And wouldn’t you know, they said, content. They actually told me they subscribe to and read a blog based on the content. Bingo!!!
So I asked them, “than why have you not posted to your blog since last November?” They didn’t have a good reason. So we discussed how important it was to post on a regular basis as your readers come to expect it. Actually your readers demand it. How can you ever expect to turn a visitor into a reader if you are not posting regularly. And post good, up-to-date, relevant content. You can’t expect them to become readers and there is no reason for them to either.
You can have the best, most beautiful, custom design in the world, but if you don’t post to your blog, what good is it. And you can use all of the social media tools like FaceBook and twitter, but if you don’t post to your blog, how do you expect to grow your blog with these social media tools. You can’t. You can have the best thought out name and domain for your blog, but if you don’t post, what good are they. You are wasting your time.
Post, post, post. You have to post to your blog to get, keep and continue to improve your blog’s readership.
