Commenting on Other Blogs … Something you have to do

If there is one activity I visit with our clients about at G2 Web Media when we are discussing blogging, it is commenting. Not only allowing comments on your blog, but just as important, commenting on other blogs.

I have been blogging now for over 3 years, and I still try to leave at least 2 to 3 comments on other blogs each day. ProBlogger had a post just the other day called, “the power of commenting on other blogs.” Darren uses a video to show you why it is important and how much attention you can bring to yourself and your blog. he also mentions a tool we are just starting to use, Crazyegg.

Darren makes a point in his post that I have been beating on now for sometime.

I do want to emphasize again – that the strategy of building traffic to your blog by leaving comments on other blogs only works when your comments ad value and are relevant to the post. If you don’t adhere to this you’ll just end up hurting your reputation.

I want to echo that statement. I get comments daily on my blogs. Those comments which actually add to the conversation are the ones I notice first. They are also the ones other readers notice too. When leaving a comment, don’t just say “great post”, “good job”, “well done”, etc… If you are going to comment give them more. Not only will the blogger you are posting your comment to notice you. The other commentators and/or readers will notice you more too.

One little bit of information I have come to understand and you should too, comments are read almost as much and sometimes more than the actual post. There are times when the comments to my blog post are so much better than the post itself. You will find that sometimes those who comment are running with the premise of the post and taking it even further. This is the great thing about blogging and the conversation taking place.

Blogging if done right by both the blogger, the reader and the commentator is one of the best communication tools available between a business and its audience. So, get out there and read other blogs in your niche, target or market. Leave comments. But make sure you leave relevant comments that add something to the conversation. You will see results.

I find your blog very instructive, and I agree with this recent post. A blog should encourage thought and discussion, as no one truly knows it all, and the more valuable contributions made, the more we all know in the end! Comments are like conversation. Thanks!
