I use notify.me to get all the blogs in my niche, and if i like one post i read it and comment there.

I bookmark the site and mention it on my blog. This is a great way to be social and get on various

And remember, if the latest comment is at the top (as is often the case in Disqus comments) then being first has much less of an advantage.

I wonder if some clever people will take these tips, set up Sync Google Reader to an alarm on their phone (I’m sure it can be done) and comment from the loo. I can hear them tapping now from the next cubicle. Nice one Michael.

There is something nice about being the first to post. But somehow, if you don’t have much to say, like I don’t right now, I wonder if it does more damage than good…

Your tips of course are spot on – it’s just that I prefer the 100% organic method of marketing myself – that is – not doing things for the sake of exposure. I guess this means I prefer inbound marketing. But that’s just me, I’ve always had trouble with promoting myself.

It is important to note that commenting on another blog is part of a larger process of driving traffic to your blog through social media channels. It is true that commenting can bring you more traffic, and yes the points Michael makes above will help with that effort.

Another method is to expand on the post with additional value, then pose an open ended question relevant to the topic of the post for others to expand on. For example:
