Like many of you, I am a member on too many listservs. Too many in the sense, I just don’t have time to read all of the threads like I would like. Today was one of those days where I was able to follow a thread that interest me and someone made a statement which really caused me to stop. I had to stop and ponder this:
If your blog posts are actually helpful to people, then sharing them…is a service
My knee jerk reaction was to get a bit short and say, “aren’t all of our post helpful?” And then I stopped and really considered what this person said. And they actually hit it right on the mark. However, let me reword it just a bit.
Are we providing value to our readers?
As we take the next few hours or the next couple of days to plan out our goals and those items we plan to do in 2009, we must ask ourself those questions. Is what we are doing “actually helpful to people” and “are we providing value”? If you were one of your own readers, are you receiving value from your blog? I hope your answer is yes. If it is not, then maybe we need to step back and take a new look at what we are doing. If you see areas where you might be able to be more helpful or provide more value, than make the necessary changes so you can do that.
Don’t be afraid, to make changes. Even if they are drastic and/or major changes. That was the exact place we were in back in September when we decided to make a major change to the design of this blog. And that was the exact place I was in when I started to look at whether I was actually providing value and being helpful in what I was blogging about.
If you ever want to discuss how you might make some changes to your blog or in how you use social media, please don’t hesitate to drop me an email at grant@g2webmedia.com. I am always happy to lend a helping hand and answer your questions.
