I had a very valuable website for a couple of years. It was "under-utilized" until I started blogging. When I did that, I made alot of headway by reaching out further and wider. In fact, to the envy of some of my colleagues, my site was listed on the State Dept of Consumer Affairs as a resource. I did not ask for it, and only found out about it when a reader sent kudos to me! So a great benefit is the notoriety you get when you post valuable information. Another benefit to providing education to readers through a blog is that it causes you (if you do it right) - to reach outside your own "box" and gather information, and conduct research to make sure the info that you are sending out is valid. Thus, you become better informed. And last but not least, if you publish valuable information for the benefit of others, it is an important service and there is alot of personal satisfaction to be gained through giving service.
