Open your own twitter account – Day 1 Twitter Tips and Hints

What better way to start off a month long series on Twitter Tips and Hints then to do a quick run down on how to open a twitter account. It is really very easy to do.

First of all you need to go to twitter’s home page. There you will be given the green button below. Click it.

After you do, you will be taken to the page where you will enter in some key information.

Twitter _ Create an Account-4.jpg

You will notice I put a red arrow to the “Full name” space and “Username” space. I strongly urge you to use your real name for your first twitter account. (We will discuss this more tomorrow. For right now, just trust me and use your real name).

Enter this information in and don’t use any hyphens, spaces or numbers if you can help it. In your Username, use capital letters too. This is my twitter name GrantGriffiths. Twitter will tell you if the name you have picked out is available. You may have to include a middle initial to get your name if it is a common name. I was lucky and was the first Grant Griffiths to grab it.

It really is that easy. Once you set it up, please don’t go out and follow a lot of people. We will also discuss this in the next couple of days.

Make sure you leave any questions or comments on this post. Let’s keep the conversation going.

  • I wish someone had told me to use my real name when I had started out on Twitter last year. Using your name is must more professional, as well as allows others to recognize you easily. I put down a form of my name instead of my first and last name (my real name) bc I was never told to use my real name. Silly me, when I saw "username," I thought Twitter wanted me to use an assumed name. now I know better and it's hard to change the name I am using, as it's been 8 months I've been using it. But I'm still contemplating changing my account name. What is anybody's opinion on this. At this point, after 8 months, should I change my Twitter account name (username) to my "real name"?
