Don’t follow everyone just because they follow you – Day 9 Twitter Tips and Hints

B0687B7E-8299-4040-8849-EFA0CAAD4A0E.jpgDo not feel like you have to follow everyone who follows you and don’t follow everyone. You have limited time and there is really no way to keep up with it all. To follow or not to follow everyone who follows you is actually one of those topics and opinions that goes both ways. Some say to follow everyone because you need the numbers in twitter so you can make all this great money because the more numbers you have the more they will buy from you. Others say you should only follow as many other people as you can actually connect with and have a meaningful conversation with.

While I don’t agree with the opinion that the more you follow, the more money you might make with twitter. Because if you expect to get rich quick with twitter, you are going to be disappointed. If however, you want to connect with people on twitter you can certainly do that. I do follow a large number of people on twitter and I do connect with people too. I use some of the tools we are going to mention later in this series to do that.

One thing to keep in mind with twitter is the fact it is really one of the greatest opt-in and opt-out communities there is. If you feel overwhelmed by the number of followers you are following, opt-out of some of them. Follow those who you feel you can get the most benefit from. Follow those you feel you can interact and learn from. And if you are overwhelmed with the twitter traffic from a follower, don’t feel like you have to continue to follow them. Opt-out from following that tweeter.

Twitter can be overwhelming if you allow it to be

Yes, I said it. Twitter can be overwhelming if you let it. And it can be time consuming if you allow it. And let’s not forget it can be inefficient if you allow it. Being picky about the people you follow and the number of people you follow is one of the ways to keep this from happening.

Tell me what you think about following people on twitter. Do you think you should follow everyone back who follows you? Or are you selective on who you follow? Let’s keep the conversation going.

I follow back those who follow me unless I feel there is a good reason not to. Sometimes there are very good reasons not to. Usually there are not. Why should I not follow back? If they have chosen me there is a good reason. I'm not talking about those that are scammers, or spammers, or those who want to show me their pics, or sell me something I'm not interested in, or go against my morality, etc. I'm talking about others. Why would i NOT follow them back? Do I autofollow? Absolutely not! Someone told me I had to, or I was going to hurt some people's feelings by not following back quick enough, and then they would unfollow me. Oh well. I'm doing the best I can! I don't want a bunch of tweets clogging my stream that are either vulgar or that I'm not interested in! I was told that I should autofollow and then remove those tweeters I didn't want as I noticed the unsavory or unwanted tweets. Not. I am not going to deal w that, nor would I want anyone checking out my home page to deal w that when deciding to add me, after checking out who I'M adding. I have my reputation too. I'm not going to add unsavory characters! I just won't autofollow!

Right now I usually do follow (still very new) Because I work with NPO's and lots of folk volunteer - I cannot always tell if they are in my target audience or not. If I see alot of posts that are not helpful - I will unfollow. I appreciate that twitter doesn't send an alert when that happens -

I am rapidly developing an opinion about the value of some of the posts....
