Send a Thank You to a Commentator

Toolbelt.jpgToday’s task in the 28 Days to Build a Successful Blog series is another one of those no brainers we tend to forget to do. If you have been blogging at all, you are getting comments on your blog. Don’t forget those who are leaving a comment are the readers of your blog. They have graduated from being visitors to readers. They are participating in the conversation you are striving to accomplish.

If you want to do one thing which will get their attention, send them a personalized thank you for their comment. Your task for today is to write a thank you email to at least 1 of the readers who left you a comment this week. If you have a number of comments, pick 3 and email each of them a thank you.

You will be pleasantly surprised at how they will react. Chances are, they will send you a thank you right back for noticing their comment and for thanking them. And best of all, it could be the start of a great relationship with a new person you could even someday collaborate with on a project. You just never know.

Interesting idea. I know that there are a lot of blogs that use automated emails. That always bugs me, and they're usually just promoting their own materials. The idea of giving a personalized email is a great one.

Grant,

Brilliant idea! I remember being impressed when Nancy Schwartz sent me a personal email after I posted a comment. It was clear that she took the time to write a personal not and this differentiated her from all of the other bloggers.

The cost of this effort is very small compared to the return on influence (ROI).
