If you will remember in yesterday’s edition of the 28 Days to a Successful Blog, I discussed claiming your blog on Technorati. I also mentioned there is at least one reason I like to use Technorati as a blogging tool. Services like Technorati can actually come in handy for you when you are studying your blog’s stats. Not so much for the raw numbers. More importantly, to see what other bloggers are saying about your post and to find out who is linking to you too.
Another place you should be looking for such information is in Google Analytics and Woopra. I use them both and for different reasons. You can also use Google Blog Search to get information on who is linking to you. (Sidenote – Woopra is in beta so it does have some bugs as far as always connecting to their server).
Why Should You Care About Who is Linking To You?
I can think of at least a few reasons:
- So you can find other blogs in your niche
- So you can link to other bloggers in your own post
- Connect with other bloggers
- See if a competitor may be linking to your blog
And for the purpose of this post — Send a Thank You to a Blogger Who Linked to You
This is a great way to start the process of building a relationship with another blogger who just might be in the same niche as you. And this can lead to some amazing things too. Such as the partnership Michael Martine and I formed to develop and launch Blawging Lawyers.
After you have done some research and found some of these other bloggers who have linked to you, send them a short email. But, keep it brief and to the point. Don’t try to sell them anything or on anything. Just thank them for linking to your post.
If by chance they respond back, let the conversation evolve as it will. Don’t force it or try to hard. If it is meant to be, it will happen. You may discover you have a new friend or even a possible partner in a joint venture. At the very least, you just might have a new source for incoming links and comments to your blog. Don’t forget to return that favor time and time again.
