I certainly don’t want to discount the importance of SEO and the impact it can have on your blog if it is done right. However, there are times SEO is not the only answer to get your blog traffic. Take for example if your blog is brand new and you only have a few post up at this point. And what if your audience is not using search tools to find answers to their questions or solutions to their problems.
While I know almost everyone uses search tools such as Google and Yahoo, not everyone finds what they are looking for there. In todays edition of 28 Days to Build a Successful Blog I want to explore other ways you can get your blog noticed. The list will be brief and will not give a lot of explanation. That will come later or it might be found in our other on going series, Building a Successful Blog.
Getting Noticed and Not Worrying About SEO
If I had to start a new blog today and had the tools available today, I would have a huge advantage over those of us who started blogging in 2005 when I first did. Back then, the social media tools we almost take for granted today were just not around. Or if they were, they were not so widely used as they are today.
To build your successful blog without worrying about SEO you need to do the following activities:
- Get on twitter, Facebook and LInkedIn and use them all regularly. I get a huge amount of incoming traffic to this blog from all three. However, I have to say twitter is one of my biggest referrers of traffic. It has actually overtaken Google as a source of traffic.
- Content, content and content. But not just any content will do. You need to create high-quality content. You need to create kick ass content. Don’t just throw up a blog post for the sake of throwing up a blog post. And please, don’t try to impress anyone with your fancy writing style. Leave out the “legalease” and other industry standard writing styles. Give your readers content they can read and understand. Write to them, not above them and not beneath them.
- Write posts centered around the subjects you are asked about. You talk to people daily, write about what they are worried about and/or what they are talking about. And link to other relevant blogger’s and their post in your own post. They will notice.
- Put your content on social media. You can set things up so each time you post a new post on your blog, the RSS of that post will be sent to twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. Do it! There is no excuse for not doing this one simple activity which will gain you a huge amount of traffic. I use EasyTweets to send my post to twitter. And there are applications you can do the same with on Facebook.
If you do the 4 activities mentioned above, you will be well on your way to building a successful blog. The key is to do it and do it on a regular basis.
