Go out and Comment on Another Blog or Two or Three

Toolbelt.jpgFor your first task in the 28 Days to Build a Successful Blog, we want to get involved in the conversation which is taking place on other blogs.

One of the best ways to get your own blog noticed is to participate in the conversation going on at other blogs. Make it a point over the next 28 days to leave at least 1 comment on another blog at least 3 times a week. Not the same blog, but other blogs you have not commented on before.

This may seem like a very basic and unnecessary task. However, all too often it is the simple things which can give you the biggest kick in the pants. Go out there in your RSS reader or do a search on Google blog search for blogs in your niche. Read them and pick a post to comment on. But don’t comment just for the sake of commenting. Leave a comment which adds to the conversation. Take the post you are commenting on and go a bit further. Answer a question the blogger may have put in the post to get you to comment.

You can even comment on a comment. This is another great way to get involved in the conversation. And not only will the blogger notice you, those who comment on the post will notice you too.

I'm thrilled to have discovered your site. I've been finding my self stuck with blogging. I look forward to working through each of your posts so I can get unstuck one step at a time. I suspect much like meal planning it is easier if you plan for the week than have to ask yourself daily: What are we having today?

Thanks Again

I have few things which i would like to ask, its been more than a 3 years in the blogging and developed more than 20 blogs and sometimes I receive a huge no of spam comments that eats up a lot of time to delete them. The number of comments I am referring to is approx ten thousand to 30 thousands comments per week.

Another point is while commenting on other blogs, at some blogs we are required to register and then only we can comment, in this way registering at many blogs. we are leaving out our email, name , site (personal info) and few months later we don't even remember that we have visited this blog and commented here. We don't know how that blog is going to use or misuse that info or compiling all this stuff.

As per my experience I would say that one could use Captcha and a temporary email for all such things and use it to communicate with the world.

In one of the above comments i have found someone reffering to Google Analytics, no doubt its a one of the best analytics program in the market. However for someone who is just starting up and doesn't know how to use such a complex system, for there use I would recommend - Sitemeter and Statcounter. They are free and are easy to use. One can even use Quantserve.

As a part of promotion I would also prefer creating your about us page on About Us site (New York Times Online Venture) and complete your site's info on Alexa Page.

Thanks

I agree with this strategy and it is easy to see how well it works if you track your website traffic using Google Analytics. I admit it takes some time, but those links stay out there!

I have to disagree with the idea 1461 proposes. I prefer commentators to use their names, so I know I'm talking to a human. Keyword stuffing drives me crazy. I do, however, commend linking to your site, especially if you use specific linking.

On the whole, I think blog commenting is a very effective way of raising your traffic and building a better experience.

Corey -- As always your comments are great appreciated. And your insight into what works and doesn't work is outstanding. I too prefer when the commentator leaves their name. And like you, I don't mind relevant links being left. But, don't spam link in a comment as it will not be approved. Thanks again for being a reader and for your continued support of Blog For Profit.

I was wondering about the appropriateness of adding or mentioning my own blog in the comment, thanks for answering that. I have read somewhere some tips/etiquette for commenting but the question of adding a link was the biggest question I had.

And if you are going to invest the time and craftsmanship into the art of commenting on a regular basis don't forget the comments need to include a link to your site. Make sure you are using a targeted key word as your anchor as well. Like my site is 1461 Days so my link would be 1461 days since I am using 1461 Days as one of my key search terms.

Now if I wanted the same site to show up in a search for guest bloggers I would link to the site with Guest bloggers are wanted to help with the 1,461 Days project!

They would also be considered natural links as they are included in content and comment. That makes the search engines put more emphasis on the importance of the links value in your SEO and SEP.

Hope that helps a little.

Great comment and thanks for the reminder on using links. I actually have a post on using links in your comments set for this series. However, you tip expands on what I am doing. That is what is so great about reader comments. More times than not, the reader comments expand and even improve on the original post. Thanks again!!!

I have been involved with blogging for about 6 months now. It's fun to read the blogs of others and interact by commenting.. Interesting thing is that there are several authors on my blog and I think they write some pretty good stuff, but not many comment.
