As we continue with 28 Days to Build a Successful Blog, I want to jump in and answer a question I received yesterday on a listserv I am on. One of the members asked, “how do I get more comments on my blog?” I directed this person to a few of the post I wrote on this blog and reminded this person, post on a regular basis. When I visited their blog, they had not posted between August 2008 and February 2009. If you are not posting on a consistent basis, how can you expect your readers to come back and how can you expect them to bother leaving a comment.
When you as the blogger are not participating in the conversation yourself, how the heck can you expect your readers too? You can’t and guess what, they won’t.
Here are 9 activities you can do to increase your comments:
- Ask for them
- You as the blogger have to participate in the conversation too
- All your readers to subscribe to comments
- Give your commentators something in return for leaving a comment
- Don’t require your readers to register to comment (This one raises my blood pressure)
- Moderate your comments and take care of spam
- Ask questions in your blog post
- Don’t give them all the answers in the blog post
- Be controversial, but be careful
If you are getting comments on your own blog, what are some of the activities you do which you feel help you get comments? Leave your comments here with your ideas and suggestions. Lets keep the conversation going.
