Don’t Overlook Your About Page

Toolbelt.jpgAs we continue our series 28 days to Build a Successful Blog I want to spend just a moment on one of the most overlooked, least used “Page” you should have on your blog.

The About Page

If you are just starting out designing and implementing your blog, don’t forget this important part of your blog. All too often, I see bloggers overlook the about page. They either don’t do one at all or just throw something up and calling it good.

I can tell you from my own experience, my About Page is one of my most visited pages on my blog. People want to know about you and who they are reading. And if you are a business or professional service firm who is using a blog for marketing, your About Page is a must have.

However, don’t just throw one up and call it good. Take some time and think about the message you want to project to your visitors. Depending on your audience, you need to decide if you are going to write the About Page in the 1st person or 3rd person. I for one, like the 1st person style better. To me it seems more personal and that you are trying to connect with your readers in a more personal way too.

You also need to decide what all you want to cover in your About Page. For me, I include a lot and I also include links to other Pages in my blog that provide other information I want my readers to know about.

You Homework

Spend some time on your About Page. If you have not drafted one, do so. And if you have one, read through it and make sure it projects the image you want.
