Do a Post Series on Your Blog

Toolbelt.jpgSince this is the last in our series 28 Days to Build a Successful Blog, I thought it only appropriate to conclude with a strong suggestion that you do your own post series.

This has been a long series and a fun one to do. And I want to just mention that I am sorry it actually took me longer than the 28 days in February to complete it. No good excuse other than we have been very busy with client projects and other projects.

What I can tell you however is that the series has received some great traffic and comments. Both on the blog and on twitter. This tells me doing a series is a great way to build your audience and increase your readers. We have also seen a good increase in subscribers. In fact, the increase has been so good we will be installing the Feedburner counter soon.

Planning a Post Series

If you are going to do a post series, and I would encourage you to do so, pre-plan it. Decide early how long it will run. And you should pick a general theme for your series. Mine was building a successful blog. I picked February to do it in for a couple of reasons.

  • It seemed like a great month to do one as things are usually pretty quiet in February.
  • 28 days was not your usual length and was different than others out there.

Finally, plan out your series and have the post ideas saved somewhere so you aren’t hunting for ideas as the series moves forward. In other words, know what you are going to post about each day of the series. And write as many of the post ahead of time and post-date them. This will allow you to not scramble for the post when the day arrives. I can say this from personal experience. I got caught a couple of times without a post in the can ready to post.

Final Thoughts

I hope you have enjoyed this series as much as I have enjoyed writing it and reading your comments. If there is any topic you thought I should have included in the series, please leave your comments to this post with those ideas. I will be more than happy to write about the suggested topics or answer your questions in future post. We can call them something else if we get enough for a new series too.

What a great Idea.

Maybe next month, or a month down the line I will do a similiar thing.

Did you save the posts up before the month started, or did you write tham as each day went?

Thank you so much for doing this series. As a new blogger and Twitterer, you provide a wealth of information that I will be reviewing and implementing at my own blog. I'm trying to sell the idea of blogging to my employer, but in the interim, am working on my own blog and hoping to see more legal support staff blogs.

Lynne -- Thank you so much for reading Blog For Profit and for you nice words about our recent series. I am glad you found some information in the series which has been helpful. If there are any questions you might have or a topic you would like to see us post about, let us know. We are always happy to listen to our readers and take your suggestions and turn them into post.
