Before I go much further with this blog, I felt it was important to tell you a bit about how I used a blog to promote my former law practice. I started a blog which was targeted to my family law practice in February of 2005. It was on the Typepad blogging platform, which is still a great platform.
I focused the blog on providing information and answering questions for the general public. Mainly those looking for help or information concerning divorce. I also targeted those looking for a cheaper way to get an uncontested divorce, with or with children. I created a number of post about uncontested divorces and made them a permanent part of my sidebar in their own “typelist”. The posts explaining the uncontested divorce and what we charged were there and easy to find.
It was not uncommon for me to get 5 to 6 new emails a day from people seeking an answer to a question. Or to get 10 or 15 inquires a week concerning the uncontested divorces or other divorce matters. I would qualify them to see if they were truly uncontested and go from there.
Because I was providing a service to those in Kansas looking for an alternative to the typical contested matter and the typical cost of such, I was able to create a good demand and stream of clients. On an average, I was able to open between 6 to 8 new flat fee uncontested divorce cases a month. While they were not huge money making cases, they added to our income. And they were all obtained from blogging. In addition, the blog created contested matter clients for me too which provided the higher cost cases.
Why am I telling you this? I want you to know that I was successful in using a blog to promote my business, which was a professional service firm. I was targeting a niche market and I was getting results. My blogging practices created traffic which resulted in some good conversions and in turn some very good income. The blog quickly became the only print or online marketing I was doing.
In a very near future post, I will explain how I was able to get the traffic I was able to get.
